JULY’S STRESS-LESS SUMMER SWEEPSTAKES WINNING TIPS
HERE’S WHERE OUR READERS GO TO DE-STRESS ON VACATION!
“My husband and I both have very stressful jobs.In order to get totally away from the emails, phone calls, pagers, etc., we leave the country and go to the Caribbean. No work, no interruptions, no family issues to deal with...just peace and quiet, together on the beach or lounging at the pool. We can do whatever, whenever we choose, and reconnect as a couple.” --Debbie Smith
“Every February my husband and I spend a week with my parents at their condo on the Gulf coast in SW Florida. It’s the week I look forward to the most each year. I sleep with the window open, and let the rising sun wake me up – so much better than an alarm clock! Then I head down to the beach for a morning to run, listening to the surf and watching the wildlife. The only must-do outing (every year) is a hike through Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary for excellent wildlife viewing! After a day’s activities, we usually prepare and eat dinner together, and have time for an hour or two of TV or playing cards or computer games before our drooping eyelids tell us it’s time to go to bed.” --Amy Peacock
“My favorite place to go and ‘de-stress’ is the Little River Inn near Mendocino, CA. I/we go there because we know the area so well we don't have to rush around to see or do everything. We can do as much or as little as we want. We can just sit and enjoy the coastline, I can read or do some needle work, nap or sleep to the sound of the surf and finally just relax without feeling guilty that I am not doing anything. This is the best ‘medicine’ I’ve found for de-stressing.” -- Nancy Riewerts
Congratulations again, and thank you for your incredible tips!
Did You Know?
August is National Napping Month: There is great power in the Siesta! Companies are losing billions of dollars to decreased worker productivity due to exhaustion and stress (drowsiness on the job costs US businesses approximately $18 billion a year in lost productivity). There is valuable scientific research behind how taking a nap at least three times a week for about half an hour lowers the risk of heart-related illnesses by 37%.
If you can’t catch some much needed zzzz’s at the office, Dr. Hall has tips on how to recharge your brain and complete the day refreshed by doing yoga stretches in your chair, playing an online game for 10 minutes, taking a brisk walk outdoors during lunchtime...just breaking the work pace for 10 – 15 minutes at least once a day can help to reset your mind and enable you to jump back in at a more productive rate. Try to work one of these tips into your weekly routine, starting with a few days per week and work your way up to creating a daily ritual for yourself. Your body, and your boss, will thank you!
